How good is your English, really? This free test gives you a proper answer in about 8 minutes. It is 40 graded questions covering grammar, vocabulary and use of English — not a self-assessment where you guess your own level. At the end you get your CEFR level from A1 to C2 plus a breakdown of which skill is holding you back, so you know exactly what to study next.
No signup needed to take the test. Answer honestly and do not use a dictionary — a wrong answer is more useful to you than a lucky guess.
How this English level test works
The 40 questions are graded. Six are A1, seven are A2, eight are B1, eight are B2, six are C1 and five are C2. Your level is the highest band where you answer at least 60% correctly while still passing every band below it. That is why the test can tell the difference between someone who guesses a few advanced questions and someone who genuinely reads at that level.
The answer options are shuffled every time, so the correct answer is never in the same position, and retaking the test will not show you the same order twice.

Is this English level test really free?
Yes. There is no signup, no payment, no email address and no time limit. Take it as many times as you like.
How long does the test take?
About 8 to 12 minutes for 40 questions. There is no timer, so take as long as you need — but answer with your first instinct rather than looking things up, or the result will not reflect your real level.
Is this an official CEFR certificate?
No. This is a free placement test that gives you an accurate estimate so you know what to study next. Official certification comes from exams like Cambridge, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test. This test is designed to tell you where to start, not to prove your level to an employer or university.
Does it test speaking and listening?
Not yet. This version measures grammar, vocabulary and use of English — the parts that can be assessed reliably in a written test. Speaking and listening tests are coming. In the meantime, most learners find their speaking level sits one band below their reading level, so if you scored B1 here, treat your speaking as A2 and practise accordingly.
